| Show Food What to Eat Before Performances
|
Performing Tomorrow?
A Good Start
- Start your performance day with a hearty breakfast. Skimpy meals mean not having enough energy to get through your performance.
- Oatmeal (not instant) with fresh fruit
- Every spice you add to food helps the digestive process and prevents bloating.
- Nuts provide protein and omega-3's - a dancer's best friend
- Between breakfast and lunch, have a small snack like a piece of fruit and a handful of trail mix
Midday Fuel
- Lean protein like chicken or tuna over leafy dark greens with a variety of vegetables is a great power meal.
- Heavy dense foods with lots of salt overload your system, causing discomfort and bloating.
Pre-Show Plan
- Continue to drink water and snack the afternoon away until an hour or two before show time.
- Mini snacks create available energy in the form of glucose stored in the bloodstream.
- Snacks like: spoonful of almond butter, fruit, handful of good quality granola, dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), peanut butter and a banana. Potassium keeps muscles from cramping and protein creates lasting energy.
Post-Show Repair
- Avoid eating large meals late at night.
- While your sleeping, your body works more on digesting than repairing your muscles.
- Supply your body with healthy, fresh foods throughout the day and let it sleep and recharge at night
